Karl's music can be best described as eclectic,
smoothly blending elements of Blues, Country and
World music. He combines organic rhythms with the
lyrical sensitivity of a poet. A central thread of faith
permeates Karl's work, which is in turn magical,
haunting and earthy.
Of Czech desent, Karl was born into a musical and poetic background. His Grandfarther, Karel, was a violinist in Prague, whilst his mother, Mary, was a keen lover of poetry and verse.
Karl first picked up the guitar at the age of ten. He was influenced by Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Ravi Shankar, something that would remain with him in his later life.
The witings of Jalaludin Rumi and Kahil Gibran sowed the seeds for a foundation of faith which would become prevalent in his work and philosophies.
Karl has performed live for the last twenty-five years at festivals and venues throughout the UK. He has performed solo, with his son Nick Svarc and with ensembles over the years.
Karl has recorded two studio albums - Running Water and Strong Foundation - and one live album - Open Road, Live from the greenbelt Festival. He also runs song-writing workshops.
His current line up features: Sean South (guitarist and arranger), a long time friend and musical companion who works in other projects such as Progzilla, in the fields of Jazz, Rock and Fusion. Heather Dowthwaite (percussionist) who brings an unusual array of tuned and untuned percussion with driving rhythms and sensitive touch. This trio is often augmented by the addition of Mike Wright on fretless and double bass.
