Musicians Unlimited have attempted the first World Record for playing as a Big Band for 24 hours on the 10/11 November 2001 at The Studio in Hartlepool.

They started playing on the 10 November 2001 at 10:20 am and played with three 15-minute- breaks until 11 November 2001 at 01:21 am. At that time all 12 Musicians who attempted the World Record were still playing. They have been supported by a number of other musicians to help them achieving a high musical standard. The band has performed 208 numbers during those 15 hours or 901 minutes. The whole event was under close supervision by stewards and independent witnesses. The documentation has been submitted to try and get the World Record confirmed and officially recognised.

Press reports and radio interviews have already appeared in the local media and there will be further publications in due course.

Can we please thank all the musicians for this extraordinary musical achievement and the numerous stewards and helpers for their enthusiastic work. The event went ahead without any major complications and the support for the band by helpers and audience made a big contribution to this World Record Attempt success.

We thank all our sponsors for their support in kind, work and money. We are still collecting money for BBC Children in Need and will keep the bank account open for another year. Meanwhile a cheque for £ 4,000 has been officially handed over to Children in Need live on the Alan Wright programme on BBC Radio Cleveland earlier this year.

Remember, Musicians Unlimited are playing for free every Sunday afternoon between 1 and 3 pm at The Studio, Tower Street, Hartlepool. Perhaps we will see your there one day?!
