Bars and restaurants

There is a huge proliferation of these on the beach front, some quite cheap and some expensive. Scallops, just round from the Mas y Mas, does full English breakfasts, roast dinners, fish and chips, salads etc. Although it is British food, the quality is excellent and you get a free bottle of wine with every meal! Average cost is about 6 Euros for 3 courses! It is excellent to take children to as it is right on the beach and the adults get to keep the kids' bottle of wine (you can take them away with you, so remember to ask). La Perla is also very nice, and more Spanish, and Los Remos next door is more expensive but a good seafood restaurant.

Beach bar

Castello half way down the beach does a really excellent Paella and has a speciality dish of chicken and almonds (Pollo con Almendras). There are also Italian, German and Austrian restaurants. The best value, apart from Scallops, are the Chinese restaurants. There are two in Javea Park that do huge set meals with free wine, liqueurs etc for under ten Euros, and you can take away the left overs. There is also a small Indian restaurant in the parade of shops facing the road behind the beach, and English bakery and breakfast bar facing the old road at the back of Javea Park.

Also in that road are two English bars, Try Again and Sonnys. Try Again does quiz nights and live music. There is also an Irish bar, An Shebeen, on the other side of this road, which has superb air conditioning.

If you want to watch sport, Calypso on the beach front has Satellite TV, as does Pub JJ behind it. Calypso does excellent Sangria! Citrus at the back of the beach is good to watch the sun go down, and run by a very charming couple - very civilised! Children can also play on the trampolines over the road in summer while you enjoy your drink in peace.

There are also plenty of bars open late (usually 2-3 a.m.) where you can enjoy music - if you like rock and roll Octopus is an eclectic little bar on the front with a great sound system playing everything from Hendrix to the Stones, whilst Acuarela nearby has a live band on Saturdays. There is one disco, the Moli Blanc, that stays open all night, situated on the dual carriageway away from residential and beach areas.

For authentic Spanish food, there are some good Tapas bars down the steps from the church in the old town, and also up by the new cathedral in the port. Also in the port is El Clavo, renowned for its fish.

Redonda II is a big Spanish restaurant on the road between Javea and Benitachell, close to La Quinta. They speak no English and will give you an Al La Carte menu, but ask for the "Menu del Dia" and you'll get the same food in a 3-course menu at half the price! Meson de Paco is just at the end of the lane- perfect for a lazy night!

There are also plenty of places that do takeaways and deliveries.
