The stages I went through
I have decided to make a more detailed helmet to go with my new chinguard, as I wanted a better band and sharper writing in the sides. I have compared some pictures from the films and there seems to be quite a few differences especially with the back detail so I am doing what I think looks nice.
I found a cheap fibreglass helmet copy at a show which I used for the general shape and then started from scratch with lots of filler.
I had a sign made in laminate to approx the right dimensions.
I then silicon moulded this and made a resin copy
I took it out of the mould before it was completely set and gave it a slight curve to match the helmet shape.
Below you can see the new rear detail I have added (still some more to do) the left ear that I have now made perfectly round and the start of marking out the band.
Added the rear vents and fitted the words.
More work on the band, really difficult to get it straight.
