I employ a process of layering different fabrics including hand dyed silk, natural fabrics such as chiffon, fine cotton and hand-made paper. This will be surface stitched by both hand and machine. I may use painted backgrounds and can employ cut back techniques which bring the underneath fabrics to the fore. I may also add further texture with the use of an embellisher machine. I will work until I feel I have achieved the right depth and colour for the piece. My work is mainly abstract but I occasionally make garden and landscape scenes surfaced stitched by hand and machine.
