SERPENT STARS

Red Serpent Star(Ophioderma squamosissimus)

I bought this red serpent star in December 2000 having waited for two years for my LFS to find one! They make a useful addition to the scavenging crew. Some years ago I had two and they were very spectacular, especially when they intertwined.

In the right picture you can see the ambulacral grooves on the animals underside and the tube feet used for locomotion. The mouth can be seen in the centre of the underside of the oral disc.

This brown one has been with me for many years.

This one was given to me four years ago and is very secretive. I am lucky to see it once a month.
