When I revamped the tank I had several hermit crabs left from the previous set-up and transferred the red legged variety as being less destructive.

I would not buy these creatures to put in a tank with a live sand bed because they are opportunistic omnivores and will eat many of the small creatures that are necessary to the running of the bed.
