Copperband Butterfly (Chelmon rostratus)

Copperband Butterfly Now tolerated by the Tangs

Left picture by Lisa Page.

This was bought in early November 2003 to help combat the increasing Aiptasia and has done an excellent job. For the first week or so it was constantly harassed by the Yellow Tangs and for a further week was harassed immediately before lights on and immediately after lights out.

Now the Tangs tolerate it.

Although it was always pecking at the rocks and the substrate I never saw it take any food from the water column and I eventually found it dead and plastered against the Tunze Stream. There were no marks on its body and I can only assume it starved to death. It never previously had any problem with the Tunze and must have been weak. The Mandarin, which also pecks at the rocks, is as fat as butter so there seems to be plenty of food available.
