A TREAT FOR THE SENSES
They call this a factory!!!
Everything is done by hand
The only piece of machinery
Perfumes of Rarotonga  operate from what they call a garden factory in Matavera on the east side of the island (pictured above).    They're on the main road into town (Avarua),  Cook Islands Bus will gladly drop you off there, and in my opinion it's a "must visit".    They make and sell perfumes, oils and soap...and all of it produced by hand.   The closest they come to machinery is a 40 year old foot operated press for soap moulds (below right).
The scents of jasmine, gardenia, frangipani and pandanus are all captured in perfumes, after shave and concentrated oils.  And for anyone who's visited the islands, they bring back memories in an instant.

Every step of the production process is done by hand, including bottling, labelling and packing (see picture on the left).  Hand made coconut soap is also a speciality. And everything, even the wrapping for the products is environmentally friendly.   Speaking of friendly, that goes for the people who work there too.
You don't even have to visit Rarotonga  to capture the scents of the islands.  Perfumes of Rarotonga have set  up their own web site. Mauke Miracle Oil is personally recommended for bites, burns and sunburn.  And you can browse all the premium perfumes including one which is bottled complete with black pearl.
