FIRST PART
PLAN OF OPERATIONS
The First Part to this
contract comprises the Plan of Operations as approved by the Commissioners.
General Details of Work
Clear fell areas marked (1996‑2000)
2a,2b & 2c.
Restock 2a & 2c with conifers and 2b with
mixed broadleaves. Weeding, beating up and pest control as necessary. Annual
Management Grant will allow follow‑up spraying of rhododendron growth.
[Live]Stock will be excluded from the whole estate. The estate has a twenty
year design plan where the size and shapes of felling and restocking coupes
have been carefully planned. Replanting will be kept at least 5m away from
watercourses, but where existing B/L's remain, these will be retained. Care
will also be taken to refrain from planting closer than 5m. to the public
rights of way which exist within the woodland.

of high conservation interest and of great aesthetic value in the Mawddach
Estuary and consists of mature broadleaves. An old path (not public) travels
part of the way around. One part of this path reaches a spectacular view point
of the Mawddach Estuary. Within this project we wish to upgrade this path and
extend further throughout the compartment giving a longer trail and a circular
route. We also wish to upgrade a track which coincides with a Public Right of
Way which will be protected.
These
operations will enable people to walk and enjoy the peace and quiet of the
woodland safely. In addition the area will be available to educate people about
the flora/fauna that exist in this environment. The Walkers Welcome package
will be the format for promotion and signage of the new path.

Penmaenuchaf
is a locally prominent landform rising up from the Mawdddach Estuary at
Penmaenpool. Penmaenuchqaf presents rnany problems and challenges, one of which
is the rhododendron. The soils are generally thin and poor, over lying steep
rugged rocks. Trees have only been partially succesful in some areas.
Rhododendron has used these areas to establish and spread, if the spread is to
be halted and the plant eradicated some major steps need to be taken:
The
work will inimediately stop further spread of Rhododendron throughout the above
compartments and will contribute towards the overall control of this plant in
the Mawddach Estuary. Eventually the flora and fauna will adapt to the new
environment. Once the Rhododendron is cleared and control implemented the
opportunity arises to develop the conservation value of the Estate.
