Our visit to the Yanagiryu in Cheshire, managed by Mr Chris Davies, was informative, and we were greeted with respect and congeniality. During the session Chris demonstrated a natural teaching ability, and showed finesse in his techniques that can only come from years of training and dedication. His seminars are recommended.
Chris began his training in martial arts during the 1980's with Judo and Shukokai Karate, and also traditional Shito Ryu Karate. He trained in traditional battlefield-based techniques which he felt opened up possibilities that allowed him to change his body dynamics to do more, with less effort and at speed.
He also developed external and internal healing systems, and was greatly influenced by Japanese Sensei such as Kanazawa, Kasano, Tsukeda, Nagato, Noguchi, Someya, Oguri, Ishizuka, and Tanaka.
He currently teaches a small but dedicated group, as well as associated clubs around the UK, Canada and Norway. He visits Japan to train and continually self-improve, and is aiming for two more trips to Tokyo with students shortly.
Typical of all serious martial artists who have a profound understanding of their personal relationship with their arts, Chris is modest, and although highly qualified places more value on the standard of training and teaching than the notoriety of grades.
