Dorman's Pool, Teesside
Perhaps the most famous pool in the North
Tees area is Dorman's pool. This areas has some shallow open
water areas, marsh, reed bed and muddy edges suitable for
waders. The number of species seen from here is impressive
and this pool is well known amongst the more well travelled
birders.
| The
pools are at present ideal for breeding ducks and
this is probably
the best place in Teesside to see a wide selection
of ducks especially Pintail and Gadwall. The picture
on the right shows two Spoonbills taken by me in
June 2002.

| The
number of birds seen here and at the nearby "Rec" pond
is high, no doubt to some extent because it is very
well watched. A selection of some of the birds seen
here include, Great White Egret, Curlew Sandpiper,
Pectoral Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, White-Rumped
Sandpiper, Bearded Tit, Black Tern, Bluethroat, Common
Tern, Cuckoo, Curlew, Garganey, Golden Plover, Goldeneye
and Ross's gull! plus many more. |
