ah, DOS. i used to have a '286 with an EGA card and 9k6 modem with no compression. that ran DOS. MS-DOS, tho'. now, there are some other options...

i've split this into sections, the first aimed at mainly OS specific sites...

  • Get DOS just about every version of DOS in existance, plus some useful drivers and utilities you'll almost certainly want.
  • Pysmatic DR-DOS Central has extra DR-DOS info and stuff
  • Lineo's DR-DOS page is minimilist, to say the least, but i've included it for completenes.
  • A Whole GNU DOS is attempting to finish what the GNUish MSDOS project started - no kernel, just your *NIX style command line tools.
  • Dosius Software has yet more command line tools for DOS, many in the GNU style.
  • DJGPP is mainly for dev work, but seems to contain most GNU command line stuff, for 386 upwards only

now for webrings, search engine directories, and big file archives...

the net isn't just websites - here's some newsgroups, mailing lists and irc channels devoted to DOS:

  • mailing lists:
  • newsgroup (links to google groups ):
  • irc channels:
    • apparently, there is one: #DOS on EFnet (irc.ins.net.uk works best for me if it helps) and IdealNet. it's the same guys, or pretty much. sure, DOS isn't going to die without irc, but - one channel? just one? sheesh
