The Green Party is committed to housing developments away from the Green Belt. Brown sites need to be recovered.
In Cambridge where the present City boundaries means there is limited space to build new housing, imaginative ways to recover the Old cattle Market need to be looked at.
In South Cambs where more space appears to be available, there is evident local opposition to large housing developments. The Green Party calls for consultation with local people. Housing should provide for the needs of local people as well as planned needs for growth & development. But the latter should not override the former.
The Green Party committed to people & the environment. The healthier the environment, the healthier the people.
The Green-Belt and Rural villages need to be protected from over development. Councils and developers should not sacrifice gardens, green spaces or even school playing fields for development nor for financial reasons.
You could provide for double the population of London in the next 100 years, without losing one more tree or one more blade of grass. But you require an overhaul of living environment experience, and the demands placed on 'space'
It is the infrastructure, the quality of housing, public transport & public spaces, which determines how sucessful a society is with dealing with its own progress as the demands for more housing, new runways and new motorways have on our environment and countryside.
The Green Party supports the individual's Right to Buy Scheme for Council Tenant's, but in accordance with Council Tenant's wishes who voted 79% against the wholesale of Council Housing, opposes the wholesale Tansfer of Council Housing Stock in Cambridge & South Cambs and across the Eastern Region.

Green Party Housing Committee.
South Cambs: The Green Party supports modern housing developments which enable us to increase the energy efficiencies of homes, and keep a balance with nature and our surrounds. There is a demand for 60,000 new homes. The Green Party will work to ensure any housing developments are sustainable and have the support of local communities.
Cambridge: The Housing Committee is involved in the consultation process for new housing developments in Cambridge City, and also deals with all matters relating to Council Housing Stock, and the provision of Social & Sheltered Housing for the elderly in the City & County. These issues are presently under review in both the City and County Council.
