Real Progress
The Green Party
putting people and
the environment first
The Green Party notes the governments failure to deliver on positive moves to promote cycling, making it safer on congested City roads and nationwide. Of the £500 million over 10 year proposed as the investment plan needed, little over £10 million has been spent.
Cambridge has a global reputation in science and innovation. Green MEPs are already working to challenge the research and business communities to respect ethical boundaries.
Green MEPs and Councillors across England & Wales are fighting to save the Green Belt and open spaces, to promote real alternatives in ((public)) transport with minimal demands on the countryside, to ensure measured development & environmental impact whether for housing or transport, and to protect the diversity of the area for future generations.

Ruhul Islam (Petersfield) - Jon.Quinn (Newnham)
Green Party City Council candidates Cambridge. June 2004
The Green Party is committed to the fluid movement of traffic and public transport on our roads and motorways.
Fast, safe, frequent reliable & efficient (low emissions) environmentally friendly public transport is the key to providing a solution to the ever increasing levels in pollution & congestion in our City roads brought about by the explosion in car ownership & car use.
The Green Party campaigning for low emissions public transport. Award winning Park + Ride services, dedicated buslanes, more frequent Citi-bus and Rural services.
The Green Party in Cambridge welcomes the award winning Park & Ride services and the reduction in the number of cars coming daily into our City. However Greens are concerned that some other local bus services have been reduced and that return tickets are not available on some routes where megarider tickets may not meet the requirements of the user.
Additional Taxi services, Cycle & foot Bridges and better cyclelanes, all help to ensure Cambridge and surrounds, remains one of the most desirable and people friendly environments, for passing visitors, students, short and long term residents alike.
The Green Party welcomes the Safer Streets & Safe Routes to School Schemes, which require reductions in traffic speed around our schools, whether in our Cities, suburban, town or more rural areas.
The parents of children walking or cycling to those schools welcome any measures to reduce accidents - and traffic calming or measures to reduce speeds are the most effective.
The Green Party putting people & the environment first. Transport Solutions: Prams & Trams. Futures 2 & Rapid Transit
Guided Bus has been sold to the public as the only option available to link Cambridge and Huntingdon via St Ives. It is the preferred option of the present Conservative controlled County Council. A County Council which is also committed to the housing development in Northstowe.
CHUMMS the Cambridge to Huntingdon Multi-modal Study or Cambs County Council application for Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) government funding, is designed to reduce congestion on the busy A14 corridor, not to lower pollution, or reduce car use.
Congestion charges, road use and car sharing
Measures to encourage car sharing for school runs in more rural areas, and rush-hour traffic into congested zones, need to be supported by fast, frequent and reliable public transport at affordable prices. To make the cost and convenience of public transport an attractive option for more users
