Green Party Opposes Government biofuels plan
These plans will hurt both our small farmers and the British countryside. Green Party spokesperson Tom Tibbits comments:
Intensive agricultural production and the loss of set-aside land could lead to fewer refuges for biodiversity and strengthen the grip of agribusiness on rural land management.
We need vibrant local economies, and measures to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Recycling waste into biofuels offers much greater benefits for struggling local ecomies & the environment than agricultural monocultures.

The Green Party accepts biofuels can be seen as a measure to improve the Government's emission reduction strategy, particularly for transport, where emissions (road & air) have not been curved. We should be encouraging localisation to reduce the need for the source of emissions - transport.
Cold winters, Global Warming, Instability -- The Real Killer -- Climate Change
While Tony Blair and the labour government have been following Son of Bush - and his false war on Iraq and the non-existent WMD, they have ignored the real killers: CO2 emissions, over dependance on fossil fuels, traffic congestion, pollution, and climate change - and failed to insist the US ratify and sign up to the Kyoto & Rio agreements on CO2 emissions.
This government has repeatedly claimed to be committed to tackling the problem but has set inadequate targets for CO2 emissions, and then failed to meet them anyway,
Based on the percentage of global emissions contributed by the UK, we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% by 2050 to check climate change To accomplish this, we need progressive, short term goals for reducing emissions, as well as investment into greener sources of energy to make sure we meet our current needs without causing more problems in the future.

Biofuels
Biofuels are now offered as an alternative or substitute for fossil fuels by GM corporations and the US Government. Greens in Europe have called for a halt or 'moratorium' to any further field trials on our countryside. These trials are not aimed at feeding third world countries or the benefit of locals, but to further extend the control over food sources & supply.
The failure by GM corporations & the US government to force these ideas on the EU, or 'coerce' EU countries into accepting GM crops, has forced them to attempt to 'sell' GM as the solution to our fuel needs.

GM corporations & the US government are not charities, but profit seeking institutions which blatantly target food sources and supplies as a means to manipulating local governments & population.
GM crops and 'Terminator genes' do not offer benefits to local farmers, but rather increased dependance on the US for seed. In the wrong hands they are the worst and most dangerous form of WMDs, which openly threaten biodiversity & local communities.
