Cambridge Greens campaigning for better schools, improved public services, more affordable housing,

The Green Party Campaigning for

Clean Air,

Clean Water &

Clear Skies

The Green Party notes the governments failure to deliver on positive moves to promote cycling, making it safer on congested City roads and nationwide. Of the £500 million over 10 years proposed as the investment plan needed, little over £10 million has been spent.

We of course are fortunate in Cambridge to have had a taste of the benefits of the pilot scheme: cycle & foot bridges over the A14 and Coldham's lane, and more cycle & bus lanes across the City.

Safe and healthy environments and a countryside open to all.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Climate Change strategy

The County Council’s climate change strategy has been developed together with local businesses, organisations, and the district councils. It sets the 5 key focus areas for our work on tackling climate change, and adapting to its effects.

Energy – we need to reduce the demand for energy, and to use more energy which comes from renewable sources;
Transport – by reducing private car use, and increasing walking, cycling, and public transport use, we can decrease emissions of climate-damaging gases;
Resource efficiency – better use of resources, including reusing and recycling goods, can significantly reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions;
Adaptation – whatever we do to reduce it, some climate change will occur, and we need to prepare for it;
Awareness – there are both positive and negative implications of climate change, and it is important that good levels of information are available to organisations, businesses, and the public.

The document is available electronically, as a whole or in sections. Publishing online is more resource-efficient than producing paper copies, and helps contribute to the actions detailed in the strategy.

______

The Green Party recognises the demands society makes on our contryside, as communities grow and prosper. Sustainability is the key to modern culture. The need to enjoy the benefits of globalisation, the internet and cheap air travel without the need to destroy either our local or global environment.

______

Whilst the Green Party is happy to admit increased yields and resistance to drought and salts may be necessary and desirable, especially in some arid zones, there are still some very serious questions regarding the effects vast monocultures and large agribusiness can have on our soil and countryside.

A reduction in the use of pesticides and herbicides is another green target. GM is not the only alternative and the green party is keen to see that other methods of land management are promoted to encourage a healthy wildlife and bird population.

The Green Party supports organic farming and forms of agriculture which are friendly to both our environment & wildlife. The Green Party would support & invest in local produce - after all you cannot get better english apples than from england.

Cambridgeshire is a wealthy area with a thriving economy in which houses are too expensive for many local people. Real progress means seeing that this wealth is fairly distributed, that all workers' rights are respected and that development is spread evenly to other areas.

The Green Party aims to achieve these goals by fielding more County Council candidates, who share our vision of a better future for all Cambridgeshire Residents: passing visitors, guest workers, students, short & long term residents alike.
