Cambridge Greens campaigning for better schools, improved public services, and more

affordable housing,

Greens campaigning for Safer Streets, modern public transport: fast reliable and frequent.

Safe and healthy environments and a countryside open to all.

Green MEPs and Councillors across England & Wales are fighting to save the Green Belt and open spaces, to promote real alternatives in ((public)) transport with minimal demands on the countryside, to ensure measured development & environmental impact whether for housing or transport, and to protect the diversity of the area for future generations.

Clean Air,

Clean Water &

Clear Skies

The Green Party notes the governments failure to deliver on positive moves to promote cycling, making it safer on congested City roads and nationwide. Of the £500 million over 10 years proposed as the investment plan needed, little over £10 million has been spent on two pilot schemes.

The Green Party want to see more community involvement in the planning system. Local communities must be meaningfully involved in the planning process. A new planning consultation framework would ensure wider local discussion and a greater weight given to local opinions.

Green Councillors will continue to seek local planning policies that have better community support. It is vital to both protect architectural heritage but also allow sensible improvements, which save energy, keep homes warm and prevent problems such as damp - and will address any flooding issues in the region.

Greens have been active in the Local Plan Review process. Greens do not support major greenfield developments but instead wish to see the best use of brownfield sites for any new development.

Greens will promote the best possible public access to the planning system, including the development of internet access to view plans and make representations. Greens will continue to lobby for stricter planning controls on mobile phone masts.

The Green Party putting people & the environment first. The Green Party has seen its vote increase, by addressing those issues which matter to people.

The Green Party recognises the demands society makes on our contryside, as communities grow and prosper. Greens have consistently argued the need for measured housing development. New housing projects need to be away from Green Belt and the housing industry encouraged to recover brown sites.

Public Transport is another issue which is critical. We have seen an explosion in car ownership and car use. Despite recent attempts to invest in public transport by both local & central government, this still does not offer a sufficiently attractive option to take cars off the road. A decisive strategy and targets to reduce car use need to be implemented if we are to meet set reductions in CO2 emissions..

The Green Party has seen a radical shift in local government thinking. From waste disposal to recycling initiatives and ecosystems created out of waste land & brown fields reclaimed. From Safer Cycling and dedicated bus & cycle lanes to modern public transport, lower emissions and car free city days.
