Greens campaigning for Safer Streets, modern public transport: fast reliable and frequent.

Safe and healthy environments and a countryside open to all.

Green MEPs and Councillors across England & Wales are fighting to save the

Green Belt and open spaces, to promote

real alternatives in ((public)) transport

with minimal demands

on the countryside, to ensure measured development & environmental impact whether for housing or transport, and to protect the diversity of the area

for future generations.

The Green Party want to see more community involvement in the planning system. Local communities must be meaningfully involved in the planning process. A new planning consultation framework would ensure wider local discussion and a greater weight given to local opinions.

On the Council -

Green Councillors will work with all those who share policy positions, for the benefit of local people and the environment.

The Greens will not operate a party whip. This gives councillors the freedom to best represent the views of their local electorate.

The South Cambs Green Party promotes the idea of a 'rainbow' administration of all political groupings, thereby reflecting better the diversity of views found in the district, whilst recognising the practical need for decision making to get things done.

Green Councillors will continue to seek local planning policies that have better community support. It is vital to both protect architectural heritage but also allow sensible improvements, which save energy, keep homes warm and prevent problems such as damp - and will address any flooding issues in the region.

Greens have been active in the Local Plan Review process. Greens do not support major greenfield developments but instead wish to see the best use of brownfield sites for any new development.

Greens will promote the best possible public access to the planning system, including the development of internet access to view plans and make representations. Greens will continue to lobby for stricter planning controls on mobile phone masts.

________

The Green Party aims to achieve their goals by fielding more candidates, who share our vision of a greener future for Cambridgeshire Residents: all passing visitors, EU citizens, guest workers, students, and all our short & long term residents alike

______

The South Cambs Green Party will continue to work for local people, supporting their priorities and will also work to increase the number of Green Councillors to make this happen.

Greens have consistently argued the need for measured housing development. New housing projects need to be away from Green Belt and the housing industry encouraged to recover brown sites.

The Green-Belt and Rural villages need to be protected from overdevelopment. Councils and developers should not sacrifice gardens, green spaces or even school playing fields for development nor for short term financial reasons.

It is the infrastructure, the quality of housing, public transport & public spaces, which determines how sucessful a society is with dealing with its own progress as the demands, first by (old) industries and now new industries and services - for more housing, new runways and new motorways have on our countryside.
