Mitchell Scout Troop, named after the locally born Spitfire designer Reginald Mitchell, was formed in 2000 and meets on Monday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. in the Group Den. The troop caters for young people from the age of 10 to 14 and provides a well-balanced programme to meet the aims and objective of the Scout Movement as a whole. The traditional activities of Camping, Cooking, Canoeing, Climbing, Caving (and they are just some of the ones that begin with a C!) are interspersed with the more modern activities and interests that young people enjoy in the 21st Century.
In 2007 we celebrated 100 years of the Scout section and our programme for the year reflected the celebrations, including a visit to the World Jamboree where one of our Scouts was fortunate enough to be selected to be part of the Staffordshire contingent. 2008 has seen us renew our friendship with Norwegian Scouts from Strand Jopeland (just outside Stavanger) when we hosted them at the International Friendship Camp (IFC) at Kibblestone where we spent a tremendous time together. We first met during the IFC in 2004 and were fortunate enough to be able to spend two weeks with them in Norway in 2005 - a definite highlight in the history of the Mitchell Troop. We hope to return to Norway in the near future.
We have made many memories in the relatively short time that the Troop has been going and you can share a few of them by clicking on the link(s) below. We feel sure that there are many, many more that we have yet to make!
