VOL — Display the name and serial number of a volume

Synopsis

VOL [/?] [drives…]

Options

/?
Display command syntax information.
/IGNOREHARDERROR
Prevent the hard error daemon from popping up its display if a hard error is generated.

Description

The VOL command displays the name and serial number for the specified volumes. More than one volume may be specified, in which case VOL will display the information for each volume in turn. If no arguments are specified, VOL will display information for the current volume by default.

Note: The volume label and serial number are properties of the volume itself, not of the disc containing the volume nor the drive that the disc happens to be inserted into.
