Other useful tools

MasterSplitter

MasterSplitter combines multiple files into one. You may have seen files ending in .001, .002, .003... These can be combined using MasterSplitter. You can also use it to split files, e.g. to spread a large file onto multiple floppies.

Skype

I've never tried this, but many people recommend it to me. Skype allows you to make and receive telephone calls through your computer for free (provided you are calling another Skype user). You can also call standard phone numbers at a much reduced cost. As it's based on P2P technology, you should follow the steps above to Optimise your network settings. It is decentralised and all connections are encrypted.

PowerDesk

You can use this to replace Windows Explorer. Among other features, it has the ability to preview files (think QuickView from earlier versions of Windows), to view the contents of compressed files, a secure file scrubber, a file search which can seach for files inside archives, and a built-in FTP client. Download here.

TUGZip

TUGZip is yet another free archiving utility. However, it doesn't have adverts, and can cope with a lot more file types than similar free products:-

Download TUGZip here.
