Scandinavian Music and Dance Weekend

in association with the

Norwegian Church Arts Centre, Cardiff Bay.

20/21/22 October 2006 .                                    

This year sees a new direction in Pentreffest's programming - working with the Norwegian Church to bring an exciting new collaboration of traditional musicians from Norway. Vek will be appearing on Friday night as part of a short UK tour. Listen out for them on Late Junction on Radio 3. Vek are: Håkon Høgemo and Nils Økland (Hardanger Fiddle),Karl Seglem (tenor sax and goat-horn) and Mike Adcock (piano and accordion).

From Sweden we again have Jean-Pierre Yvert who will be running workshops on making and playing the Sälgflöjt, and Louise Schultz who will be teaching fiddle and Swedish Songs. Both are long time favourites at Pentreffest weekends, and will also be playing a short concert on Saturday night as well as playing for dancing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dance workshops for beginners and advanced in Swedish dance for beginners and advanced will again be provided by Pat Lindop with Carol Turner providing the music and keeping everyone in time on fiddle and Nyckeharpa.

 

 

 

For those of you who like Cardiff so much they want to stay all week, once again we finish the week with a return visit by Swap.

This hugely popular Anglo-Swedish quartet return for another appearance at the Norwegian Church as part of a UK tour, to promote their new CD Du Da. A breathtaking exchange of Swedish, English and Irish music performed by all-Ireland champion Karen Tweed (The Poozies, Kathryn Tickell, May Monday), comedic Ian Carr (Kate Rusby Band, Eddi Reader, Old Rope String Band), Ola Bäckström, one of the most respected fiddlers & composers in Scandinavia today, and Carina Normansson from Vastmanland, who sings of naked men in the snow.
