Setting up mIRC for Feesch Chat
boston
university corporate education center
!!A quick note about this page !!
There are 8 Pictures on this site to help with the setup, depending on server speeds etc. these may take a few minutes to load
STEP 1.1
You can download my copy of mIRC 5.6 below which is setup already for Feesch chat and to grab sounds automatically when they are played, or you can follow the instructions from steps 2 to 4 if you already have mIRC on your computer.
mIRC 5.6, setup for Feesch Chat
Download
(874kb)
STEP 1.2
Get and Install a new clean copy of mIRC and follow the steps from 2 onwards.
Then Install it like you would any other windows based program.
STEP 2
Adding the Feesch Chat Server
Open mIRC from either the start menu or desktop icon if there is one, and you will see a screen like this.

Click on the Add button and you will see a new screen like the one below.

So fill in the Add server box as above, then click on the ok button.
The Feesch Server is now added and should now look like the box below.

Step 3
Putting in a Nick name and other information

Real Name-- Put your real name if you like but other do see it so you may want to make one up.
Email Address-- Its up to you if you want to put your real email addy in, but put something
NickName-- Be careful what you put in here, you may have to stick to this name for a long time, as that's what people know you as, if you change your nickname too often, friends wont be able to find you on chat, and may get annoyed and give up.
Second NickName-- If you drop offline your name can stay on the server for 5 to 10 mins after you leave, so if you come back on before you name drops, mIRC will use the second NickName, so make it like your main nickname, like I have above.
*PLEASE NOTE* All information I have filled in is made up, if it is your email addy or name etc., let me know and I will change it A.S.A.P.
Step 4
Connecting to the Feesch Server
Now, click on the 'Connect to IRC Server' button (as noted in the above picture), and you will see loads of text (don't worry if it stops for a small time, this is normal), when you see a screen like below and the text has stopped moving and it looks a little like below, you are now connected.
You may get a window open with a list of rooms in it, untick the open this window at startup, as this is not very useful, and its easy to do it yourself anyway :o)

When you click on the list channel button (normally about 4th from the left) you will get a box pop up like the one below.

Now set the min to '1' and the max to '999' as they are nice round numbers, you can put lower numbers in max if you want to start in a quiet room, or the min number to '0' if you want to list all rooms, even if there is no one in it. Then click on the 'Get List!' button and a new window like the one below will open.

Then double click on the room you want to go in, and bingo, your done, you are online with mIRC and chatting in a room.
Step 5
O.K., I'm in a room, now what ??
Below is a picture of an example room on the Feesch Chat server called 'feesch_general'

O.K., a few notes first, if someone has a @ sign next to my name it means they are room Op, in other words they have the power to kick, ban, voice or de-voice people.
If you have a + next to your name it means the room is moderated and you have been granted a voice so you can type in the room and talk to others who are in the room. (This is not always on)
Then, right click on someone's name for options for that person, i.e., send a file or private chat.
On most chat servers, users like to plays short sound files, if you
don't have these you will hear nothing, you can grab them one at a
time, but much better if you let mIRC do it for you, download the zip
file below to find out how, I have scanned this many times to be
virus free, and I am 99.999999999% sure it is clean, but check it
anyway.
Anything else you might want to know get in touch, ICQ number 4778354
and if you are new too chat then check out my IRC emotions
page.
