Richard and Ann are my Great-Great-Grandparents.

Richard Tomlinson

Richard Tomlinson was born in Warrington in 1799.  Records show Richard Tomlinson was christened on 20-Jan-1799, but does not disclose his parents.  Richard may have had two older brothers, recorded on the same microfilm: William (c. 4-Apr-1792) and John (c. 14-Feb-1794).

In 1841 Richard (age ~40) and Ann (age ~35) were living in Shaw Street, Great Bolton with three of their children, Thomas (age ~15), Richard (age 3) and Mary (age 10 months).

The 1851 census shows Richard was a hand loom weaver, born 1799 in Warrington.  Richard's cousin, John Allen, who was living with them in 1841 was still there in 1851.  The had 6 of their 7 children with them: Alice, Richard, Mary, Ellen (my great grand-mother), William and Joshua.  Son Thomas Bolton Tomlinson had left home earlier that year to marry Ellen Atherton.

Richard died late in 1857 (age 58).  Ann was recorded as a widow during the 1861 census.

Ann Bolton

Ann was born in Bolton-le-Moors about 1804 and christened on 4-Mar-1804, Great Bolton, Lancashire.  Her parents are recorded as Thomas Bolton and Mary.

She married Richard Tomlinson on 31-October-1825 at St. Peter's, Bolton.  A year later Ann gave birth to Thomas Bolton Tomlinson (c. 9-July-1826).  His full name helps confirm the family pedigree.

She was living at Shaw St., Great Bolton in 1841 with husband Richard, mother and family.  Also with her was her brother John Bolton (~30), and Mary Bolton (~60) presumably her mother.  Also present were John Allen (~25), John Gates (~35) and John Horton (~35).

By 1851 she was living in Great Bolton with family and brother John Bolton.  The records show Ann was a provision dealer.  This is also confirmed in the 1853 Bolton directory and later census records.

She was living at 19 Shaw Street, Great Bolton, Lancashire in 1861 (widowed).  Apart from Thomas, all her children were still living with her.  The census shows she was a shop keeper (provisions).  Ann's brother, John Bolton, was also still with them.  Apart from Ann, all the family were working in the cotton industry.

Ann's son Richard Tomlinson married Sarah Bradley in 1866 and they had a son Peter B Tomlinson the following year.  However, Sarah died in 1868 so in 1871 Ann's son Richard (recorded as widowed) and grandson Peter B Tomlinson were now living with her at 19 Shaw Street, as were daughter Mary and son Joshua, both unmarried.  Brother John was also still there, aged 63.

By 1881, aged 77, Ann and daughter Mary had moved in with John and Alice Ward, her oldest daughter at 17 Commission Street, Great Bolton (Derby ward).

Ann died in Bolton in Q4-1889, aged 85.
