Being far from home friends were important and a hence a social life was all part of the scene.
Wives Clubs, Unit Evenings out and Christmas Parties were the focal point of the social life.
Here is a pictorial view of that time.
1975 was the Christmas party period to remember, The families were being sent home in the last few weeks of December, as Christmas drew near all family evacuation ceased until after the holiday
period.
Add to this that the friendships one had made in the short life of the unit, were due to be torn apart since we were all returning to UK more than likely to different units, the final parties apart from celebrating Christmas and
New year were a chance to
say goodbye to friends. I dare say that more drink was drunk in the last week of December 1975 and the first week of 1976 than had been drunk in the whole of the previous year. Certainly I remember going to the Christmas Party at Bill Martins house, but I'm damned if I remember going home.
