A long overdue look at the site. A major addittion is the members area, this is not quite ready but I hope to have it open in a few weeks. The firts feature is a forum, I hope it will allow us all to regain contact with each otherand chat about old times. The format at the moment is experimental and if it becomes popular it will be moulded to what we want or need. The hours of operation will be limited as it is hosted on a PC in my office and I don't want a noisy PC to be humming away 24 hours a day, besides my good wife will probably have comments if it interrupts her sleep!!
Keep an eye open, the link is active on the main 889 page, if it fails to connect, the pc is off. try around 1800-2359 GMT.
Back from Australia, a terrific time had by all.
We had a short stopover in Singapore.
We made the pilgrimage to our old house on the Chip Bee Estate, didn't manage to get up to Woodlands, maybe next time. Too busy taking in the sights and sounds of the City and the attractions. We visited Haw Par Villa (Tiger Balm Gardens), looking a little worn, but still fun to see. They are tidying up and repairing all the time. While walking round we got talking to a lady who was responsible for the refurbishment of the gardens. It turned out this lady was the neice of the emminent Lee Kwan Yew, former Prime Minister and now Senior Minister of Singapore. The leading light of Singapore politics while we were in Singapore in the seventies. We had a short and very interesting chat. In all the excitement, it never dawned on me to ask the lady her name..maybe she will read this or someone who knows her...let me know.
After 3 nights we flew to Perth.
A pleasant surprise was a phone call from Paul London in New Zealand, not a lot of time to speak since Paul was some 3 or was it 4 hours ahaead and it was close to his bedtime. However the chance to talk was most welcome
and very enjoyable, catching upon old times.
Shortly after finishing the call I was talking to my brother, reminiscing about George as George was his CO after Georges return from Singapore, and I remembered that he also knew another of our number, Derek Popplewell, during the same period. It turned out he is still exchanging Christmas cards, so I now have an address.

The site hasn't been updated in a long time, so my New Years task is to redo the website. Any suggestions, contacts, photos or information please send them.
I am going to add a section for the earlier 889 Signals Unit, our forebears,
so any of you ancients out there please contact me. If you have some photos of the old unit that would be fantastic.
I'll try and get the new site up as soon as I can. I'm looking towards the end end of March so keep looking out for it.
