This year we are excited that Aston Martin have sponsored us with the design data for a 1/8th scale version of the Le Mans class winning DBRS9.

This data was sent to another of our sponsors, NPL Technologies of Nuneaton, who have turned the design data into a superb Aston Martin DBRS9 body shell. This involved them making a complex six-part mould, and then forming the shell out of Carbon Fibre. We were able to go to NPL’s  facilities in Nuneaton and help to lay-up the carbon fibre into the mould, and see it bagged down and go into the autoclave for curing.

Because we are taking part in the Electric competition as well with a model of a Porsche 917 our teacher Mr. Swain thought it would be good to see if Gulf Oil would sponsor us this year. They were more than happy to support us. They sent us a cheque for £300 towards transport costs on race day. Part of the deal was that the cars would be painted in the well known light blue and orange their sponsored cars usually race under.

SpecSavers have sponsored us for the last three years. They sent us a cheque for £1500 which has again allowed us to buy some of the specialist tyres and gears for our car. It also allows us to buy special materials such as Polymorph plastic from which we make many of the suspension parts.

CB Models have given us lots of advice and a good discount on the parts we have bought from them. They have shown us how to “port” our engine for more speed.

Hoben International sponsored us with technical advice and investment powders to mould the differential cases.

A big THANK YOU to all of you.
