Rather unusually, considering the often dark nature of the television series, the novelisations based on episodes were all aimed at the "Young Adult" market. However, of the 201 episodes produced, these novelisations only covered 27 of them.
Anyone attempting to collect every single X-Files novelisation should also be aware of a series of six licensed books which started out as behind-the-scenes reference books, and which eventually transformed into a series of extremely detailed collections of plot synopses that included much of the dialogue from each episode.
The first two books were The Truth is Out There and Trust No One, and it is these two volumes which include the majority of the behind-the-scenes information. I Want to Believe was the first volume to contain the in-depth synopses and covered Season Four. Each episode synopsis took up between 10-14 pages and also included details of the cast, settings, brief episode credits and a smattering of facts about the episode in question. Resist or Serve and The End and the Beginning covered all of the episodes from Seasons Five and Six (although bizarrely not the movie Fight the Future), with the final volume being All Things, which covered Season Seven.
Further details of the six books can be found on the X-Files: Introduction page.

Class of the Doomed
The FBI thinks Agent Fox Mulder is weird — or worse. He keeps on insisting that aliens are running amok on earth. His lovely and level-headed partner, Agent Dana Scully, is supposed to keep him in line. But that's hard to do when they're investigating an Oregon high school class full of corpses and the walking dead.
Yes, Mulder's theories about the class of '89 are beyond strange. But in a world where minds are turned off like lights, bodies blossom with otherworldly scars, and the night explodes with blinding evil, Fox Mulder may not be werd at all. He may just be the one with the answers nobody's ready to hear...

It's a Zoo Out There!
When an elephant runs amok in Idaho, Agent Fox Mulder picks up the scent of aliens at work — and takes his partner Dana Scully with him on a trail that gets hotter at every savage twist and startling turnabout.
The trail leads them to a tiger that melts through iron bars to spread terror with tooth and claw. To a gorilla that tries to reveal the hidden horror haunting the local zoo. And to the dark secrets of those who tend the animals — for their own deadly purposes.
The cage doors of doom are swinging open — to a sinister safari from outer space. Can Mulder and Scully stop it? Or will they themselves become its prey?

Four Dead, One to Go
FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are tracking a serial killer, and all of the evidence points to the impossible: a killer who can squeeze through an air duct or slide down a chimney. A killer who has never left a trace — except for a fingerprint ten inches long. A killer who has struck down five victims every thirty years — since 1903. Mulder and Scully don't know how this monster of a man has endured for the entire twentieth century. But they do know that this is the year for the creature to kill, and it's closing in on its fifth and final victim...

Circus of Terror
Gibsonton, Florida, is not your ordinary small town. It is a very special place for very special circus people — which FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully quickly learn when they go there to investigate a murder.
In trying to find out who killed the Alligator Man, Jason Glazebrook, in his very own swimming pool, they turn up some fascinating suspects — from Dr. Blockhead, who'd rather chew needles than gum, and sleeps on a bed of nails, to the town sheriff, whose past is just as colorful as the town he guards.
As the list of murder victims grows, Mulder and Scully discover that nothing in Gibsonton is what it seems. Trapped in a sideshow world of flimflam fakery where only danger is real, even the X-Files experts are getting weirded out...

A Killer Takes Shape
When rancher Jim Parker sees a snarling beast with blood-red eyes charging toward his son, he shoots it dead. But to his horror, the lifeless body is no wild animal. It's Joseph Goodensnake, a Trego Indian from the neighboring reservation.
It's a case that FBI Agent Fox Mulder can't resist. But when he and his partner Dana Scully begin to investigate, they're forced to a single conclusion: The Trego man and the wild beast are one and the same. Is there a more logical explanation — or have Mulder and Scully uncovered a terrifying tribal secret?
