Spin-off from the 1994 movie. The series carried on pretty much from where the movie left off with a return to Stargate Command for
Colonel Jack O'Neill who gets re-united with
Daniel Jackson on Abydos and subsequently teams up with
Teal'c, the First Prime of
Apophis, and
Captain Samantha Carter, the resident expert on all things scientific. As the series progressed it gradually developed its own mythology with the introduction of the
Asgard, and the
Tok'ra, a group of rebel
Goa'uld who were opposed to the rule of the
System Lords.
Stargate SG-1 finally ended in 2007 after ten seasons — a record for any genre series in the United States. It continues to live on in the form of a series of TV movies, with a spin-off show in the form of
Stargate Atlantis beginning in 2004.

Eons ago, the evil forces of Apophis and his minions made a sinister pact with the people of the planet M'kwethet. By doing so, they would avert total annihilation...while the hosts would be doomed to a living death. For years, the helpless supplicants obeyed — and were sacrificed.
It is on this world that Col. Jack O'Neill and his SG-1 team find themselves stranded. With the new "payment" about to be sent, the unit struggles to rescue a terrrified populace that does not want help, while facing the possibility of being marooned forever. But one fact overshadows all else — the Goa'uld are on their way, and O'Neill and his team must make the ultimate sacrifice — stepping into...

The price of failure...
All SG-1 wanted was technology to save Earth from the Goa'uld, but the mission to Euronda was a terrible failure. Now the dogs of Washington are baying for Jack O'Neill's blood-and Senator Robert Kinsey is leading the pack.
When Jacob Carter asks General Hammond for SG-1's participation in a mission for the Tok'ra, it seems like the answer to O'Neill's dilemma. The secretive Tok'ra are running out of hosts, and Jacob believes he's found the answer-but it means O'Neill and his team must risk their lives infiltrating a Goa'uld slave breeding farm to recruit humans willing to join the Tok'ra.
It's a risky proposition, especially since the fallout from Euronda has strained the team's bonds almost to breaking. If they can't find a way to put their differences behind them, they might not make it home alive...
