Murder in Space was produced as a genuine whodunnit, with viewers and readers of the book able to write in with the name of the person who killed Olga Denerenko, Guy Sterling, Kurt Steiner and Andrei Kalsinov.

The screenplay for the conclusion was then filmed, after being taken from a bank vault, with one person being named the "Whodunit? Detective of the Year".
