Comedy in which the Munster family run into the usual sitcom problems, but with the added problem of being monsters from mythology and literature.

Fred Gwynne played the Frankenstein-inspired Herman Munster, while his wife Lily and her father were vampires. Herman and Lily's son Eddie was a werewolf. The only human member of the family was the beautiful Marilyn, who never had a regular boyfriend — much to the bemusement of her family.

A full-colour movie version titled Munster, Go Home! was released just a month after the television ended, with a reunion TV movie titled The Munsters' Revenge being broadcast in 1981, again in colour and re-uniting Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis and Yvonne De Carlo.

A re-cast version of the television series was produced in the late-1980s, under the title The Munsters Today, and redefined the boundaries for what is considered a waste of the airwaves. Two further TV movies (Here Come the Munsters / The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas), each with a different cast, were subsequently produced for Fox during the 1990s.

The Munsters live in a great big haunted house — in fact they haunt it. They are like any family you might know, except that Pop is Frankenstein's Monster in a kindly mood; Grandpa, the Count, is a semi-retired vampire; Mama is ghoulishly gorgeous and Eddie-boy likes to perch in a corner of the ceiling with his pet vulture. And then there is niece Marilyn. She's — ugh — beautiful! Ugh — normal!

Read the book and rock with laughter. Watch THE MUNSTERS every Thursday night on CBS television.
