Classic 1960s espionage series which saw the forces of good in the form of
U.N.C.L.E. battling against the plans of
THRUSH
The two top agents were
Napoleon Solo and
Illya Kuryakin, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.
The series proved so popular that a spin-off series,
The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., was produced and the two-part stories were widely screened overseas as movies.
Original Novels
A number of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. books were released in the UK before being released in the US. As only sixteen of the twenty-three novels were released in the UK, and were also numbered differently, they are therefore all listed in the order in which they were issued in the US.

HIS NAME WAS TIXE YLNO...
The U.N.C.L.E. files could tell nothing about him except for that code name. He could be anyone — a cab driver, a corporation executive, a scientist, a storekeeper...ANYONE! And he might be anywhere in the United States.
But whoever or wherever he was, U.N.C.L.E. had to find him — because he controlled a secret that had the world at his mercy!

...and as the men from U.N.C.L.E. saw them projected on a screen in Alexander Waverly's office, they realized they were seeing a new weapon, which could mean the deaths of billions more. For these secret photos showed a new THRUSH weapon in action — huge, silent aircraft so incredibly swift and maneuverable that no nation's defense system could intercept them!
THRUSH was already at work building a fleet of them — and U.N.C.L.E. knew the work had to be stopped!

"Tell us all about Dagger!"
This was the command thrown at Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin by the unseen THRUSH agents who kidnapped them and interrogated them with lie detectors. And from each U.N.C.L.E. agent came the same answer: "We know absolutely nothing of DAGGER."
"You appear to be telling the truth," said the hidden voice. "A pity...."
But it was more than merely unfortunate that the U.N.C.L.E. organization had never heard of DAGGER. For the secret behind that name was an insane plot for mass murder — the murder of the human race!

Was it a madman's hoax, or...?
Napoleon Solo was wondering as he watched the members of a distinguished scientific convention cluster angrily around Sarah O'Rourke, beautiful niece of the eccentric Irish biochemist "King Mike" O'Rourke. The paper which Sarah had brought to the convention was gibberish, utter nonsense — or so it seemed at first.
Then suddenly Napoleon heard the deadly cough of a silenced pistol, and the scientist standing next to Sarah jerked and slumped to the floor, dead. As Sarah screamed and Napoleon sprinted to her side, the thought that leaped into his head was:
No one commits murder for a hoax!

THE BODY HAD BEEN DRAINED OF BLOOD....
In a remote area of the Transylvanian Alps, an U.N.C.L.E. agent had been killed in mysterious circumstances. The man's footprints in the snow led up to the base of the tree where he had been killed, but there were no pursuing tracks, no clues at all as to what doom had overtaken him.
There were only two small holes in the neck, and a complete absence of blood.
Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin didn't believe in vampires — but as they investigated their fellow-agent's death they were forced again and again to wonder if perhaps the old terrors of the region had more reality than the world would like to think...

"SOLO CALLING STATION K...
...SOLO CALLING STATION K...."
The figure hidden in the folds of an Arab burnoose crouched in darkness, holding a miniature transceiver close to his face. When he heard three faint pips, he continued his message: "Attention Waverly. Have located THRUSH post office. Hope to identify package tomorrow before distribution of mail. Advise Kuryakin — repeat, Kuryakin. Message ends." Quickly he hid the tiny instrument in his bedding, and lay back as though asleep.
And in a tent nearby in the encampment, another man stood up from a suitcase full of electronic equipment and said softly, "Somebody in this caravan is using a radio transmitter...."

Their search takes them to the Sudan in the company of a beautiful slave girl, where they discover that THRUSH is spearheading a campaign to take over the world — with nuclear weapons!

A ROUTINE ASSIGNMENT THAT LED TO WORLD DISASTER!
Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin were bored with the seemingly useless tip they were checking out; they had to find a man named Dundee, but they didn't know who he was or how he could be important.
But obviously he must be...for suddenly THRUSH declared war on all U.N.C.L.E agents, trying to keep them away from the mysterious Dundee.
Even as they fought to stay alive, Solo and Illya's minds were leaping ahead. Was Dundee a minion of THRUSH? Or was he working on his own, with THRUSH closing in on him?
EITHER WAY, WHAT DEADLY SECRET WAS THE MAN HIDING?

DISAPPEARANCE WITHOUT SOUND OR TRACE!
A moment before, the house had been solid, completely normal in appearance. Then, suddenly, it wasn't there. Instead, there was a huge circular pit in the ground, almost as if a bomb had destroyed everything. But there had been no explosion, no sound...nothing.
The U.N.C.L.E. agent who stumbled across this discovery could hardly believe the evidence of his own eyes — but he knew he had to report it to Mr. Waverly. And when he did, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin were plunged into the strangest adventure of their careers, fighting a deadly THRUSH weapon they couldn't even see!

DEADLY HATRED
THREATENED ILLYA AND NAPOLEON
FROM ALL SIDES...
It seeemed incredible that an intelligent man like Dr. Richard Armden could turn violently against U.N.C.L.E. for no apparent reason. Dr. Armden was a valued scientific advisor for U.N.C.L.E., but now he refused to have anything to do with the organization. "Thieving, Communistic, war-mongering muderers!" he called Illya and Napoleon.
Baffled, the two agents tried to question Dr. Armden's colleagues in this small university town...and met the same implacable hatred and threats from all of them.
It couldn't be coincidence — THRUSH must have discovered a new method of winning over the minds of scientists to their cause. But how did they do it? And how could U.N.C.L.E. fight it?

WHO WAS JOHNNIE RAINBOW?
"Johnnie Rainbow?" said Illya. "An unlikely name."
"An unlikely individual," said Waverly. "Probably one of the finest criminal minds of the last fifty years. Evidence indicates that he was the mastermind behind England's Great Train Robbery a few years ago — plus a number of more recent crimes of similar magnitude, with international implications." Waverly paused. "I'm afraid our sources in England indicate that Rainbow's continual successes have attracted the attention of another group, one in which we are vitally interested."
"THRUSH?" said Napoleon.
"Yes — and they must be stopped from making any alliance with Rainbow. That will be your assignment, gentlemen, and you must carry it out at all costs!"

PRELUDE TO WORLD CONQUEST
As Napoleon and Illya watched the filmed interrogation of a THRUSH agent, Waverly explained, "This man has revealed that he was distributing information to THRUSH investors on gold stocks in Africa. When he said to buy or sell, they did — and at the price he specified."
"But that isn't illegal," Solo protested.
"Not in itself," said Waverly. But THRUSH's plan is an international conspiracy, originating in England, to manipulate stocks in this country by using the five-hour time difference between London and New York. They seem very close to cornering the market on the gold reserves of one of the new African nations. Can you imagine what THRUSH could do with that kind of power in the explosive situation in Africa?"
As the two U.N.C.L.E. agents nodded grimly, Waverly said, "Then you know why the safety of the world may depend on stopping THRUSH's scheme!"

Who Had Kidnapped Napoleon?
It was almost unbelievable: Napoleon Solo, U.N.C.L.E.'s top enforcement officer, had been captured on the doorstep of U.N.C.L.E. Headquarters, and carried away helpless before his fellow agents could act.
There were no clues to tell who had been behind the kidnapping; there was no trail to follow to rescue him. Yet Illya Kuryakin and the rest of U.N.C.L.E. had to try.
Meanwhile, Napoleon awoke in a strange fortress and discovered why he had been captured — and knew the security of the world depended on his escape...

LINE OF DUTY
U.N.C.L.E.'s dossier on Joseph King said their former Lab Chief had been killed during a field test of his Particle Accelerator Rifle, a very deadly new weapon that backfired on him. There was no doubt about his death or its circumstances.
But could he somehow have escaped from the explosion and defected to THRUSH, taking the secrets of that weapon with him? Could he now be fighting treacherously for a position of power in THRUSH, using the P.A.R. against his rivals?
The head of THRUSH's San Francisco satrap claimed that was true, and he had voluntarily walked into U.N.C.L.E. Headquarters to ask for help against King. Obviously U.N.C.L.E. had to act — but Napoleon and Illya knew they would be facing sudden death from all sides.

LOVE GODDESS...
OR MODERN MEDUSA?
Napoleon Solo was stunned when he first saw the exquisite Countess Anne-Marie Louise de St.-Denis in her private estate on the isle of Corfu. She was the head of the world-famous St.-Denis Laboratory in Paris, where scientific miracles built beauty to order, but Napoleon hadn't expected her to be her own company's best testimonial.
Perhaps this assignment would be more pleasant than he expected. Or perhaps more dangerous — for U.N.C.L.E. suspected that the lovely Countess de St.-Denis was more than she seemed, that she was in fact the brains behind a mysterious, and very deadly, new THRUSH plot...

A FORTUNE FOR
WORLD CONQUEST
It began when a man walked into a bar and ordered a beer that he was never to drink — for moments later he saw two other men enter, and he panicked and ran headlong out the door, across the street...and under the wheels of a truck.
When he was hit, hundreds of bank notes flew all over the street, a small fortune in currency. And all of it was counterfeit.
But when U.N.C.L.E. investigated the case they found much more than just counterfeiters at work. Instead, it was a THRUSH plan to destroy the economic and political foundations of Europe — and it looked as though it was going to succeed...

MYSTERY
IN THE
SKIES
Five major air crashes in two months — the cause of all of them a complete mystery. In each case the plane's instruments were working perfectly, the crew was in command and ground control in contact. Then the plane would suddenly nosedive into the runway as it came in to land, killing most of the passengers. Those who weren't killed outright died mysterious deaths shortly after.
Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin hurried to Nice to follow a trail that led unavoidably to THRUSH — and to a monstrous master-plan that was moving steadily toward the point of no return...
