Based on Lars von Trier's original mini-series The Kingdom (aka Riget), Kingdom Hospital is written by horror writer Stephen King.

The basic premise is that the hospital has been built on the site of an old mill which burnt down during the Civil War, killing many of the child workers in the process. Cue lots of supernatural goings-on and Twin Peaks-style weirdness. Oh yes, and a giant carnivorous anteater...

According to the Kingdom Hospital FAQ at www.stephenking.com, the book was actually written by Rick Dooling who co-wrote four episodes of the series with Stephen King. As with the Rose Red tie-in, the use of a pseudonym has resulted in it being widely reported online that King himself is the author.
