Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Series Background

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century starred Gil Gerard as the eponymous NASA astronaut, whose space capsule malfunctioned and froze him, allowing him to be revived five hundred years later. Having been defrosted, Buck quickly found that the Earth had undergone a devastating nuclear war shortly after he was presumed lost, and humanity was now living in a number of hi-tech cities, under the protection of the Earth Defense Directorate (EDD).

As with the majority of series from the era, the characters were clearly delineated into the good guys and the buy guys. On Buck's side were the likes of Dr Huer (Tim O'Connor) — the head of the EDD, Colonel Wilma Deering (Erin Gray) and Twiki, a wisecracking android most famous for going "biddi-biddi-biddi". The bad buys, of which there were many, were most often represented by Kane and the devious and scantily-clad Princess Ardala (Pamela Hensley) from the planet Draconia.

The second and final season saw the series undergo a major revamp, with Buck and Wilma Deering being assigned to the Searcher, a spacecraft which was in search of the lost tribes of humanity who had fled Earth after the nuclear war — ironically, a direct inversion of Battlestar Galactica's original concept, which had also been created by Glen A Larson. Added to the series this time was their new feathered friend Hawk (Thom Christopher), who was the last of his race.
