Created by Glen A Larson (Battlestar Galactica / Knight Rider / Quincy M.E.), Automan was a blue, computer-generated character (created in the programme by the LAPD's Walter Nebicher) who was capable of fighting crime and travelling through the streets at high speed in a blue, computer-generated car.

It stayed on screen for just thirteen weeks, but now has something of a cult reputation — generally amongst people who haven't actually seen an episode since the 1980s!

THE HIGH-TECH SUPERHERO

Mild-mannered Walter Nebicher, computer wizard for the Los Angeles Police Department, has a side to him that few suspect. No, he's not a superman in disguise, but he's created a superbeing: Automan.

Automan is a walking, talking extension of Walter's computer. He has all kinds of powers. He can think and move at superspeeds. He can appear out of thin air. Bulets can't hurt him. He even glows in he dark. But when it comes to human behaviour he's got a lot to learn...

Together, Walter and Automan are going to shake up the city — and the Police Department.
Notes
  • A novelisation of the very first episode. The book was never released in the United States.
