1 Season / 22 Episodes

Arguably one of the finest genre shows to come out of the USA in the 1990s, American Gothic was set in the town of Trinity, which was policed by the demonic Sheriff Lucas Buck (Gary Cole) who was never slow to call in a favour and who even murdered one of the town's inhabitants in the very first episode.

Future installments revealed that his powers had passed on to his son, Caleb Temple.

Other characters included Merlyn, the ghost of Caleb's murdered sister, and Gail Emory, Caleb's cousin who later became pregnant by Lucas.

The series was created by Shaun Cassidy who, a decade later, created the sci-fi drama Invasion, again set in small-town America, and again criminally cancelled after just one season, although in this instance it was to be due more to studio politics rather than bad ratings.

A chilling prequel to the smash hit series, AMERICAN GOTHIC.

Trinity is a place like no other. Remote in America's Deep South, it has dark secrets all of its own. Good souls depart the town for their promised reward but the evil ones remain behind, pooling and growing stronger, unwilling to face their eternal damnation.

The Buck family have run the town for years. They are possessed by Trinity's soul, and that soul is evil. Now the preacher, Christopher Buck, is dying and their authority needs a replacement. His son Lucas Buck, is the next in line, but he is not ready to receive the power which requires a human home, to protect and serve its needs.

For Lucas has some streaks of goodness left in him. But the forces of evil are strong and will not be denied. All too soon, his life has become a battlefield on which an epic struggle must be fought. His friends and lovers become pawns in a great game and before long even a small boy, Caleb, will be subjected to powers which he cannot understand and will find difficult to resist...
Notes
  • Family was the only tie-in book to be based on American Gothic. It was never published in the United States.
