Fantasy offerings included the likes of The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside and Monsters plus, of course, Amazing Stories itself, while even non-fantasy favourites such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents saw a return to television — even though Hitchcock himself had died some years earlier.

Unfortunately, although Amazing Stories attracted star names on both sides of the camera, audiences were quick to decide that the series didn't live up to the hype, and it only ultimately managed to stay on screen for two full seasons because the contract with NBC said it had to...

Notes
  • Adaptations of a further eleven episodes from Season 1 of Amazing Stories.
  • The only two episodes from Season 1 not be novelised for the two Charter anthologies were The Doll and One for the Books, both of which were scripted by Richard Matheson.

The Doll was actually an unproduced script which had originally been written by Matheson for Season 5 of The Twilight Zone in the 1960s, and in its Amazing Stories form would result in John Lithgow winning an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series. The story would eventually see print in prose form in 1993. One for the Books was based on Matheson's own short story, first published in an issue of Galaxy in September 1955.
