- Breakaway was the first of six novelisations based on Season One of Space: 1999 which would be released by Orbit, in the process novelising twenty-three of the twenty-four episodes. The only episode not to be novelised was Earthbound, which would eventually be novelised by EC Tubb for a limited release book from the Fanderson fan club in 2003.
- Breakaway and Black Sun were also novelised in Italy as part of the very first Italian novelisation Spazio 1999. Ring Around the Moon was novelised in I Pirati Delle Galassie, while Matter of Life and Death was adapted for I Naufraghi Dello Spazio.
