- John Rankine is a pen-name of Douglas Rankine Mason.
- Astral Quest was the last of six novelisations based on Season One of Space: 1999 which would be released by Orbit, in the process novelising twenty-three of the twenty-four episodes. The only episode not to be novelised was Earthbound, which would eventually be novelised by EC Tubb for a limited release book from the Fanderson fan club in 2003.
Orbit would go on to release three original Space: 1999 novels, as well as Earthfall, which included an alternate novelisation of the opening episode as part of the story. - The Infernal Machine was also novelised in Italy by Gianni Padoan for L'ultimo Tramonto. Mission of the Darians and The Testament of Arkadia were novelised for Gli Eredi Del Passato, while Dragon's Domain appeared in I Giorni Del Terrore.
