- The Penguin TV Companion (Penguin Books, 2003) describes Ripping Yarns as "Over-the-top Boys' Own adventures satirized." And that's as good a summary as you're likely to find. For anyone wanting an original description, it's a send up of all the cliches of it's genre in a similar way to the more recent Dr Terrible's House of Horrible, only with better scripts, more imagination and more laughs. The series was written by former Monty Python stars Michael Palin and Terry Jones, with Palin playing the lead character in each story.
The Curse of the Claw was the only telefantasy episode produced and involved the cursed Claw of the Holy Vulture which was brought back to England from Burma.
