Red Dwarf is BBC 2's longest-running and highest-rated sitcom. Its fans include President Clinton, Sir Paul McCartney, Stephen Hawking, Madonna, Steven Spielberg and Chris Barrie's Mum.
Red Dwarf is often called a cult hit.
A cult?
Red Dwarf is the fourth biggest selling BBC programme of all time. The show is a hit in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Eire, France, Holland, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Namibia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, the USA on the PBS network and the West Indies. Despite this, none of the cast has been knighted and they still have to queue at the Sainsbury's cheese counter.
Now for the first time in print, the original scripts of Red Dwarf VIII — including material cut from the broadcast versions — are presented together with cast photos, storyboards, costume sketches, set designs, and a foreword and episode introductions by writer and executive producer, Doug Naylor.
For Red Dwarf fans everywhere, this is a book that's well worth standing in the book store reading until you get moved on by an irate shop assistant.
