In Death Riders, the Galactic Fair has arrived on the mining planet of Stanalan and the Death Ride roller coaster is really drawing in the crowds. But there's something sinister going on behind all the fun of the fair. Join the Doctor, Amy and Rory as they investigate...
Notes
  • The first in an occasional series of "chapter books", the idea of which was that the reader had to flip the book over to read the second story, instead of having the two stories follow on from each other from front to back. Unsurprisingly, this required separate cover images for front and back and the idea was quietly dropped from the third title (Alien Adventures) onwards. Cynics might suggest that this was partly down to unwary purchasers having bought two copies in the belief that they were buying two different items — amazingly, something not unheard of when it had been done with other books and magazines in the past.
  • Death Riders was written by Justin Richards, with Heart of Stone by Trevor Baxendale.
  • Up to 2012, Heart of Stone remains the only Eleventh Doctor story to have been penned by Trevor Baxendale, although he has previously been reponsible for no less than seven Doctor Who novels as well as two based on Torchwood.

Notes
Unused cover image: Doctor Who, Rain of Terror / Extra Time
  • Like the earlier books in the series, Alien Adventures consists of two separate stories: The Underwater War by Richard Dinnick, and Rain of Terror by Mike Tucker.
  • Alien Adventures saw a slight change of format for the books, as from this release onwards they were just standard books containing two stories one after another. The first two titles had required the reader to flip the book over in order to read the second story.
  • When details of the two chapter books due for release in September 2011 were first announced, it was intended that Rain of Terror would be paired with Extra Time, and The Underwater War with Terminal of Despair. In the event, Extra Time would be held over to the sixth book in the series, Step Back in Time, with Terminal of Despair appearing in Sightseeing in Space. The unused cover image for the Rain of Terror half of the first book can be seen above.
  • Rain of Terror started life as a proposal for a novel of the same name featuring the Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler and Captain Jack Harkness, which it was intended would be released as part of the second batch of three novels in September 2005. In the event, Mike Tucker felt that he would be unable to make the changes to the storyline that had been requested in the time available to him and the book was dropped in favour of Steve Lyons' The Stealers of Dreams.
  • The Underwater War was Richard Dinnick's first (and to date only) full length Doctor Who story. His previous credits had included a short story in Short Trips: The Solar System and several Bernice Summerfield tales, including the audio drama Dead Man's Switch.
