At the age of 16 John started work as a part time drum repairer for a large music store in Yorkshire, moving on to full time work and reaching the level of Managing Director.

He then bought Jack Cars Sheffield Band Instrument Company including the tooling and setting up in the basement of the shop learning the skills from technicians.Repairing instruments for the Huddersfield College of Music, local schools and private individuals, orchestras and the brass band community. Later John joined Boosey and Hawkes working his way to senior management level, all the way learning and developing skills from technicians within the company and catering for the instrument needs of many major performers from across the industry; and spending a great deal of time in the music educational field nationally.

Following a successful career with Boosey and Hawkes John was headhunted by Arbiter of London to bring back Holten Leblanc to the UK from the USA and France after many years of not being distributed in this country. His time in the USA saw him spending time with Vito Pascuchi (CEO and President) and Leon Leblanc. (Vito Pascuchi was a repairer and friend of Glen Miller and his orchestra) “This was a real honour and I learnt a lot from working with Vito and Leon.” says John.Then bringing the whole American and French catalogue of instruments and accessories, and setting up retail outlets across the entire UK.

Moving to Poole John had is own retail outlet in the area providing sales and repairs for ten years. John is committed to and enjoys providing the highest quality of repair and has fulfilled his lifetime ambition setting up one of the best-dedicated tooled workshops for brass and woodwind in the industry; as clients will see. Adding to the workshops is a new showroom where new and refurbished instruments and accessories i.e. reeds, oils, mouthpieces etc., are available from stock or order.
