Hardy Tropaeolums for
the Garden
|
|
The following Tropaeolums grow happily in my garden in the West of Scotland :-
Tropaeolum cilliatum
Tropaeolum speciosum
Tropaeolum ssp. tuberosum
cv. Ken Aslett
Tropaeolum tuberosum
ssp. silvestris

| Tropaeolum cilliatum | Tropaeolum speciosum |

Also perfectly hardy
is Tropaeolum polyphyllum but since my small flat garden is really unsuitable
for this species I have no actual experience of this plant. Last year as an
experiment I planted some tubers of Tropaeolum incisum in a sunny raised bed
in the open garden. These came into growth in November 2000 and survived one
particularly cold spell in late December. The plants continued to grow through
spring and early summer but did not flower. They came back into growth once
again in November of this year.
