Matrix Games and IQ Software have announced the release of World War II - Road to Victory. The turn-based grand strategy title – which is the first release from IQ Software - puts the player at the helm of one or more Allied or Axis nations (including minor nations) in the European theatre during WW2. GMT Games have published Kutuzov 1812: Defending Russia from Napoleon. It is an interactive, play it complete in one-sitting card-driven game of manoeuvre, epic battles, sieges, lethal attrition and crucial-to-victory troop morale for one to four players from Mark McLaughlin - the designer of The Napoleonic Wars and Wellington. The reviewer (Bill Bodden) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: Excellent multiplayer game combining strategy with resource management. Matrix Games and Strategic Studies Group have announced that Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets is now available. A synthesis of the best elements of two critically acclaimed game engines, Decisive Battles and Battlefront, and a successor to both, the new title recreates a campaign on the Eastern Front during WW2. Computer Games: John Tiller’s Campaign Series Updated
Matrix Games and Campaign Series Legion have released a major update for the WW2 tactical-level title John Tiller’s Campaign Series. The comprehensive version 1.03 update contains several fixes and new features for the game. The new features include 16 new scenarios for West Front, 8 new scenarios for East Front, varying visibility factors (including night and day operations), OOB expansions and revisions, new units for the U.S. Army, Germans and Soviets, and new engineer capabilities (bridging, mining and construction). Also included are new, more realistic assault rules. The update is available from the Campaign Series webpages at Matrix.

Computer Games: War Between the States Updated
Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games have released their first update for the American Civil War grand strategy title Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Bringing the version of the game up to 1.010, the update includes a handful of new player-requested features including an interface improvement making it easier to see which leaders have initiative, additional feedback to players on leader casualties and some improvements to the Union AI in Missouri. Computer Games: Birth of America 2 Released
AGEOD have chosen an appropriate day – American Independence Day – to release Birth of America II: Wars in America 1750-1815. The follow up to Birth of America is a standalone game that is not compatible with the original title. It covers all of the wars in North America between 1750 and 1815 – including the whole of the War of 1812. More information is available on the game’s webpages at Matrix Games.

History Today: Gettysburg
The third and last day of the Battle of Gettysburg was fought on this day in 1863. The most famous incident of the day’s fighting was ‘Pickett’s charge’ – when the Confederate attack on Cemetery Ridge was repulsed with heavy losses.

Computer Games: Making History: The Calm and the Storm Demo
Muzzy Lane Software have released another updated demo for their WW2 grand strategy game, Making History: The Calm and The Storm, bringing it into line with the latest version of the game (v2.0.4). The 245 MB demo features a tutorial and an historical scenario. It can be downloaded from the Downloads page of the game’s official website.

The Armchair General website has published a review of Silent War, which covers the U.S. submarine campaign in the Pacific during WW2. The reviewer (Bill Bodden) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: Solid components and strong replay value make this an excellent game. Failed Basic: Rules of Play need a bit of clarification and require careful re-reading for clear understanding.” You can read his review here.
