Computer Games:  War over the Mideast Review

The Wargamer has published a short review of the HPS Modern Air Power title War Over the Mideast (WOM).  The reviewer summed up his thoughts as follows: “I would recommend War Over the Mideast to gamers who enjoy aerial warfare or are looking for something new and different. In some ways it reminds me of Jane’s Fleet Command in terms of scale and immersion.  The editor is robust enough to keep the guys who enjoy creating custom scenarios and campaigns busy for a long time to come.” You can read his review here

WOM was also reviewed by the Armchair General on 13th January. See below for details.

Computer Games:  Black Shark Review

IGN.com has published a review of Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark. The reviewer (Bennett Ring) summed up his thoughts as follows: “We could keep going on about how polished BS is for a sim, or how insanely stable it is, or the astonishing lack of bugs, but we’d rather you experience the game than listen to us blather on about it. If you’ve fostered dreams of being a pilot, or love old-school complicated PC games, or are a simmer on the fence about a game with relatively little exposure, help support the simming genre and have a damn good time while you’re at it.  On the other hand, if you get bored reading manuals or prefer arcade action flyers, stay the hell away from this virtual cockpit.”  You can read his review hereVisit the game’s official website to find out more.

Computer Games:  World War One Review

IGN.com has published a review of World War One: The Great War 1914-1918.  The reviewer (Steve Butts) summed up his thoughts as follows: “The Great War is sadly neglected by strategy game developers. Though it lacks the dynamic military movements of certain other settings, it's rich in the other means of warfare - diplomacy, economic pressure, technology, etc. World War One manages to include those elements, and all the military action besides, but whatever joys might be found in the setting or the game design are still obscured by incomplete documentation, a clumsy interface and a number of bugs.”  You can read his review here.

World War One was reviewed by the Out of Eight games reviews blog last year. See my November 2008 page for details.

Visit the game’s webpages at Matrix Games to find out more.

SimHQ.com has published a review of Ironclads: American Civil War.  The reviewer (Tom Mauk) summed up his thoughts as follows:  “Ultimately, the idea behind the game is relatively solid but the actual construction of the game is lacking. There are far too many major omissions for this to be truly enjoyable by all but the most dedicated of naval combat fans in the community.”  You can read his review here.

Ironclads was reviewed a couple of times last year. See my November 2008 page and October 2008 page for details.

Go to the developer’s website to find out more or download the demo.
