Worthington Games have published Caesar’s Gallic War.  It is a two player game designed by Daniel Berger which covers Julius Caesar’s conquest of Gaul between 51 and 58 BC. Visit the game’s webpages at Worthington to find out more.

Board Games: 1805: Sea of Glory Released

Computer Games:  Empires in Arms Patched

Matrix Games and Australian Design Group have released a major update for their Napoleonic grand strategy title Empires in Arms.  The comprehensive version 1.06.03 update comes with dozens of bug fixes, an updated manual, several improvements leading to a smarter AI and a few rule tweaks.  It can be downloaded from the game’s official webpages at Matrix.

Computer Games:  CMSF and Marines Updated

Battlefront have released the version 1.20 patches for their Combat Mission Shock Force base game and its Marines expansion.  They can be downloaded from Battlefront.com.

Podcasts: Point 2 Point Episode 40

Jason and Scott have released their latest board gaming podcast (mp3 format). History Today: The Dieppe Raid

A largely Canadian force launched a raid upon the French port of Dieppe on this day in 1942. The Allies learned lessons at Dieppe which would help them to be successful during the Normandy landings in June 1944.

Decision Games have released Strategy & Tactics #258 featuring the game The Santiago Campaign, 1898, which covers the US campaign to capture the Cuban port of Santiago during the Spanish-American War. Further details are available on the Strategy & Tactics magazine website.

Computer Games:  Hearts of Iron 3 Review

The Out of Eight game reviews blog has published a review of Paradox Interactive’s WW2 grand strategy game Hearts of Iron III.  It gave it seven out of eight.  You can find the review here.

Computer Games:  Tour of Duty Expansion Pack

HPS Simulations have released a free expansion pack for their Vietnam wargame Tour of Duty featuring scenarios based upon Keith Nolan’s book House to House: Playing the Enemy’s Game in Saigon, May 1968.  It can be downloaded from the Squad Battles upgrades page at HPS.

Computer Games:  CMSF British Forces Review

The Armchair General website has published a review of Battlefront’s recently released Combat Mission Shock Force: British Forces.  The reviewer (Richard Martin) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: Amazingly detailed and playable expansion to the Combat Mission: Shock Force line of games.  Campaign is very challenging.  High replay value.  Failed Basic: Limited control over unit choices in quick battles.  Fuzzy objectives.”  You can read his review here.

Computer Games:  CMSF Marines Review

The Armchair General website has published a review of Battlefront’s Combat Mission Shock Force: Marines.  The reviewer (Jim H. Moreno) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: Finest Marines-focused computer game in play.  Failed Basic: Stuttering camera movement, would like more tooltips to show in game.”  You can read his review here.
