Computer Games:  Montjoie! Review

The Wargamer has published a review of AGEOD’s Hundred Years War strategy game Montjoie!  The reviewer (Jim Cobb) summed up his thoughts as follows: “An excellent combination of period feel and fun, Montjoie! is a beer-and-pretzels game with serious historical lessons.”  You can read his review here.

Computer Games:  Empires in Arms Updated

Matrix Games and Australian Design Group have released another update for their Napoleonic grand strategy title Empires in Arms.  The comprehensive version 1.03.14 update addresses issues that have become evident since the last update and adds various enhancements to the game. It can be downloaded from the game’s official webpages at Matrix.

History Today: The Battle of Tannenberg

The Battle of Tannenberg was fought at the end of August in 1914.  The Germans were able to defeat the larger Russian armies that invaded Germany at the start of WW1.

Computer Games:  Advanced Tactics Updated

Matrix Games and VR Designs have released an update for their WW2 turn-based strategy game, Advanced Tactics: World War II. The version 1.20 update adds several new features to the game.  Visit the Advanced Tactics webpages at Matrix to get the update or find out more.

History Today: The Battle of Crécy

The English defeated the French at Crécy on this day in 1346.

Computer Games:  World War II - Road to Victory Updated

Matrix Games and IQ Software have released an update for World War II - Road to Victory. The recently released grand strategy game puts the player at the helm of one or more Allied or Axis nations (including minor nations) in the European theatre during WW2.  The game models combat, production, research and diplomacy. Computer Games:  Panzer Command: Kharkov Review

The Wargamer has published a review of Panzer Command: Kharkov.  The reviewer summed up his thoughts as follows: “For Eastern Front tactical combat, the Panzer Command series is realistic, challenging and downright fun to play.”  Click here to read the review and see some screenshots.

Board Games: Pacific Typhoon Review

The Armchair General website has published a review of Pacific Typhoon - a card game based on naval battles in the Pacific Theatre during WW2. The reviewer (Dr. Brandon Neff) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: Low complexity, fairly fast-moving, attractive components. Failed Basic:  Frequently results in no combat; type can be difficult to read against background colours on cards.”  You can read his review here.  The game is published by GMT Games - who can be found here.

Paradox Interactive have released an update for their early Roman period strategy game Europa Universalis: Rome.  The version 1.3 update can be downloaded by using the ‘Check for update’ button on the game launcher.

Computer Games:  Wings Over Israel Review

IGN.com have published a review of the jet combat game Wings Over Israel.  You can find it here.

The game covers air combat from three Middle East conflicts: the 1967 Six Day War, 1973 Yom Kippur War and 1982 Lebanon War.  It is produced by Third Wire Productions - who can be found here.

Computer Games:  Birth of America 2 Demo

AGEOD have released a demo for their new title Birth of America II: Wars in America 1750-1815.  It can be downloaded from FileFront.com here

The follow up to Birth of America is a standalone game that is not compatible with the original title.  It covers all of the wars in North America between 1750 and 1815 – including the whole of the War of 1812.  More information – including screenshots - is available on this webpage.

Computer Games:  War Between the States Updated

Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games have released another update for the American Civil War grand strategy title Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Bringing the version of the game up to 1.020, the update includes aver a dozen fixes and three rule changes.  To get the update or find out more visit the game’s webpages at Matrix.

Board Games: Strategy & Tactics Issue 251

Decision Games have released Strategy & Tactics #251 featuring a double-sized (two map) wargame Cobra which covers the WW2 Normandy campaign from D-Day to the Falaise pocket. Further details are available on the Strategy & Tactics magazine website.

Computer Games:  Great Invasions Re-released

Matrix Games and AGEOD have announced that they have added the classic strategy game of survival, advancement and conquest in the Dark Ages, Great Invasions, to the Matrix Games catalogue. Philippe Thibaut’s Great Invasions is a turn-based grand strategy game set in Europe between 350 and 1066 AD.  It is a complex game, with almost 80 playable nations, 22 different ethnic groups and numerous religious, political, economic and territorial entities.  Visit the game’s webpages at Matrix to find out more.

Computer Games:  War Between the States Review

The Armchair General website has published a review of the American Civil War grand strategy game recently developed by 2 by 3 Games - Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. The reviewer (Larry Levandowski) summed up his thoughts as follows: “Passed Inspection: No nonsense Strategy Gaming.  Great depiction of the role of leaders in the American Civil War. Excellent video tutorials. Failed Basic: Replay value is limited by too few scenarios and no editor.” He gave it an Armchair General score of 83%.  You can read his review here.
