Aikido with mind and body unified
Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido (Ki Aikido) is a martial art, which integrates both mind and body in a program of self development aimed to greatly improve self- confidence, peace of mind and levels of health and physical fitness.
Master Koichi Tohei-sensei, who studied under the founder of Aikido, founded Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. This translates as ‘aikido with mind and body unified’. Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido teaches 'ki development' as a way to promote relaxation and overall body awareness in everyday life as well as in the dojo.
The Cardiff and District Ki No Kenkyukai Dojos are directly registered with the Ki No Kenkyukai in Japan. This is the headquarters of our style of Aikido.
Five Basic Principles of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido
1. Extend Ki:
Before leading others you must first learn to control yourself by coordinating mind and body.
2. Know your opponent's mind:
Understand your opponent's intention.
3. Respect your opponent's Ki:
Do not fight with your opponent.
4. Put yourself in the place of your opponent:
Align with your opponent first then you can lead them effectively.
5. Perform with confidence:
Continue to conclusion without doubt or hesitation.
